Business Development Manager

Strongstown B&K is looking for a Business Development Manager!

The Business Development Manager will play a crucial role in driving the growth and expansion of B&K, a leading heavy highway subcontractor. The Business Development Manager will develop strategies to strengthen the company’s core markets, penetrate new markets, and build relationships with key customers. The Business Development Manager focuses on increasing revenue, identifying new opportunities, and ensuring long-term market presence through strategic partnerships and acquisitions.

Responsibilities of the Business Development Manager:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute growth strategies.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new markets, particularly in the Northeast region (New York) and the upper Midwest region (Ohio and Michigan).
  • Conduct market analysis to assess state-by-state dynamics, competitive landscape, and emerging trends in the heavy highway industry.
  • Re-establish relationships with past clients.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Serve as the point of contact for key customer relationships, ensuring the company’s market presence is protected and strengthened.
  • Lead efforts to recapture market share in underperforming regions and assess new opportunities for product or service lines.
  • Analyze competitors’ strategies, product offerings, and market penetration tactics to ensure B&K remains competitive.
  • Build strategies to protect market share in core regions while identifying potential geographic expansions.
  • Assist in the development of pricing strategies that balance competitive positioning with profitability.
  • Identify and pursue high-margin business opportunities while managing lower-margin projects effectively.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to identify acquisition targets that complement the company’s growth strategy.
  • Build strategic partnerships that align with B&K’s long-term goals and strengthen its market position.
  • Represent B&K at industry events, conferences, and associations, building a strong network within the heavy highway construction sector.
  • Leverage DOT specifications and relationships with state and federal agencies to advance business opportunities.

Skills of the Business Development Manager:
  • Demonstrated experience in market expansion, customer relationship management, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of the heavy highway industry, DOT regulations, and funding dynamics or the ability to learn.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze market trends and competitors and develop actionable strategies.
  • Ability to travel as needed to engage with clients and pursue market opportunities.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Above average organization skills. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Above average knowledge of Microsoft Suite as well as research tools and marketing software.
  • Responds promptly to internal and external customer needs and stakeholders; responds to requests for service and assistance from internal and external customers.

 

Qualifications of the Business Development Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, or a related field. MBA preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in business development, sales, account management, or a similar role.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for marketing and strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and achieve business objectives.
  • Maintain clean driving record.
  • Travel requirements: 50-75%
