B&K – A Story of Progress
B&K was launched in 1987 as a woman-owned flagging company and was recognized by PennDOT as a Certified WBE (Women’s Business Enterprise). The firm quickly experienced success, and in the mid-1990s, began performing various types of drainage, pipe, and culvert installations as a prequalified subcontractor.
This expansion – along with the continued flagging operation – launched the company into the early 2000s when the emphasis shifted to installing permanent and temporary traffic control devices. In 2011, B&K graduated from the DBE program and lost its WBE classification due to its continued success.
B&K has continued to grow thanks to decades of partnering with numerous general contractors throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Connecticut. They know that when we install temporary and permanent barrier the project will be done quickly, cost-effectively, and safely regardless of project size. We have strategically located more than a million linear feet of owned temporary concrete and steel barrier throughout our service area to respond and mobilize at a moment’s notice.
We believe in staying current and innovative in the ever-changing heavy highway construction business. This was evident when we developed, tested, and secured approval for a new retrofit system that supplements our existing fleet of J-J Hooks Concrete Barrier, in order to keep up with the increasing deflective requirements in Pennsylvania while also providing the safest possible work zone. The system was successfully used on a project for the first time in September 2017.
Over the last 30 years, B&K has navigated the journey from startup to the heavy highway construction industry’s subcontractor of choice for permanent and temporary traffic control. We look forward to partnering with our existing and future customers on many projects in the future.
